Wow, its been a while since I been on here. For last few weeks I been working on a project called Fiber Nut. This is a redesign project…or should I say I was polishing up a old project I did recently called Fiber Nut. This is a fictional company that sells organic nut snacks and nut butter spreads. They have the goal to create great snacks to for people who look to eat food without chemicals or processed foods. Foods that have more nutritional value but also taste delicious. I was inspired my love of almonds and nut butters. I also am a fan of trail mix so this was a personal project.
For the last few weeks I was working on a project called Pretty Cupcakes. This is a brand I create a for a personal project based on an oldest project I did a few years ago. I wanted to create a more modern look and implement the new skills I learn over the past few years. This project help me learn some new skills and techniques. Here the process of what went on the project.
The idea of Pretty Cupcakes started as a redesign of my old design project from school called Bella Buttercream Cupcakes. I wanted to revisit it and create a new one with a different name. I also was inspired by watching Cupcake Wars. I also like a lot of people enjoy eating cupcakes. And I will admit while working on the project I ate some myself.
For the project I wanted to take what I think of when I think of cupcakes. From the outer appearance I think cupcakes are pretty from the decorations, the sprinkles, and sometimes how pretty they look. Always a addition to any part. The other part of my inspiration is the fact I am someone that looks to eat healthy I decide to combine the two and bring a bakery to it.
In the design approach I wanted to create a look that stays away from the typical organic and healthy look that many of the organic brands at the market have. I believe just because its healthy doesn’t mean it should scream it all the time. So instead I wanted to focus on create a brand that would appeal to not just those looking to eat healthy but for the other people who just want to eat something sweet.
For the sketching process I came up with different variations and ideas. I like to start with paper and a pencil because I think it’s the best to cut the distraction of the internet and software that it creates. At the end I narrowed it down to a few choices.
Choosing The Typography.
After the sketching process, I went in Illustrator to choose the typography that I plan on using. I knew I wanted something fun, playful and handwritten. I also wanted it to be easy to read in different sizes. I think for logos its important to have flexible typography that can be read at different sizes, or colors. Typography is supposed to be readable and legible.
After I had my idea for the logo it was time to get on Illustrator and to design. When I start my design, I like to start in black and white because it helps me focus on the main logo and not distracted by colors or effects. Logos are suppose to be simple, functional and flexible. After the step is done I bring in the color. I stuck with a two color palette to be economical and also I think Pretty Cupcake didn’t need more than two. I used a yellow inspired by yellow cake flavor and a magenta color to compliment it.
The next step was to work on the branding for Pretty Cupcakes. I wanted to help capture the fun fill of the cupcakes. I wanted to keep the color scheme and use stripes as well.
This project was fun to create and hope to continue on with the project and add more to it. Like most of my projects its ongoing project that does not end. I believe in going back to an old project and making it better with an update with the new skills you learn. Until my next project keep on creating.
